April Journeyman: Constitution Bee 3

Constitution Bee 3

We will be holding a Vanguard Constitution Bee (say that in your head like I say "Constitution Quest", it's much more fun that way!)  at the end of April.  We have 3 months to prepare, so I've broken up the material into 3 pieces.  We will study one piece each month.

Please watch the videos provided, but DO NOT do the quizzes for each lesson, we will be going over those in class.    We will also be playing the games he suggests in class.

Use your pocket Constitution that I gave you and mark it up as instructed in the videos.  This will help in your understanding of the Constitution.

I SUGGEST DOING ONE CLAUSE PER DAY SO THAT YOU DON'T GET THEM JUMBLED IN YOUR HEAD.  WATCH THE VIDEO AND DO THE CROSSWORD AND THEN LET YOUR BRAIN REST UNTIL THE NEXT DAY.  THIS MAKES IT EASIER TO KEEP THEM STRAIGHT.

Let the games begin!

Please watch the following videos:

1 - Part 5: Interstate Commerce Clause

2 - Part 6: Treaty Law Clause

3 -  Summary

And do the following crossword puzzles:

1 - Interstate Commerce

2 - Treaty Law

April Masters

Image result for last class

 APRIL MASTERS!!!! :) :) :)

Hey, everyone! It is the last Leadership Masters (And Journeyman kind of) class of the year! Wow! This year has just flown by! SO, we are gonna have a party! :D

Study/Learn

1. Read the conclusion in the 7 Tipping Points that Saved The World.

(We've ONLY done 6 of the 7 tipping points. The last one is about the Battle of Britain, and it's FANTASTIC! I would encourage you to read it, but just 'cause it's not during ancient times, and it's kinda long, we are just going to read the conclusion for this one. Maybe we could have a Battle of Britain day during the summer... So, just get the conclusion done! And, by the way, it's 6 pages. So, you ALL should come, 'cause it won't be a party without you there! :D)

2.  Review each of the Tipping Points. (Just read the titles of the chapters, or skim through the book)

3.  Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w8eqUvRFPzs

4. Read these scriptures:
              2 Nephi chapter 4
              Alma 26: 7
              Romans 8: 31, 35, 37-39

5. Write a notecard for "Tipping Point" Look it up, or make up your own.

6. Watch a movie. Look for all the Tipping Points in that movie.

Know/Understand

DO BOTH:

1. Journal about tipping points for ten minutes. What is a Tipping Point? Are there any Tipping Points in your life? What choice will you make that will determine history? Do your actions, and choices help the continuing of freedom, or stop it? Why are you here? What is your great purpose, that can make of break history? What will you choose? Will you fight to preserve the miracle of freedom that we enjoy today?

2. Journal about the video and scriptures up there. Why did I put them as an assignment? What do they have to do with freedom, Tipping Points, and the history of the world? Do you think God has a hand in the history that's created the world we live in? Do you think God, your Heavenly Father has a hand in your life? Why?

Become/Serve

Ponder this: Is the existence of freedom a miracle? Why or why not? Come ready to discuss.

Bring a treat (Healthy or not) to class, and come ready to PARTY! :D

  • Confucius
  • Confucianism
  • Taoism
  • yin/yang
2 - Read both of the following biographies of Confucius
3 - Read Chapter 4, "The Childlike Heart: Mencius, Sage of China" from the book, 10 Great Souls I Want to Meet in Heaven by S. Michael Wilcox

4 - Read the following about the 3 major religions of Ancient China

5 - Add the following to your timeline:
  • Confucius (500 BC)

6 - Read Chapter 6: "Entrusting Ourselves to the Potter" in the book In the Hands of the Potter by Camille Fronk

OPTIONAL: Watch one of my favorite movies from my childhood, "Big Bird in China" from 1983. (click the link and it will take you to youtube)  It's 1 hour 12 minutes long, so don't wait til the last minute.   It shows the beautiful scenery around China.

Know/Understand

DO ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:

  • Research why and when Chinese New Year is held.  Is it the same day that we, in America, celebrate New Years?  Why or why not?
  • The Chinese Zodiac is represented by 12 animal signs.  One is represented each year rotating through them all.  2017 is the Year of the Rooster.  Find out what animal sign was represented in the year you were born.  Read about the traits of a person born under that sign.  Does it sound like you, why or why not?
  • Both China and Japan use characters to write.  Find out how to write your name in Chinese (Mandarin) and in Japanese.  Bring them to class to show.
  • Origami is Japanese paper folding.  Make something out of origami and bring it to class to show.

Become/Serve

Choose one of the saying of Confucius that you like.  Why do you like to so much?  Is it true?  Why or why not?  Journal for 10 minutes about it and set a goal to incorporate the teaching into your life.
