Dates for timeline



Here are dates to put on the timeline for the freedom documents for the United States. 

May 24. 1775 2nd Continental Congress meets. John Hancock president
April 19, 1775, Battles at Lexington and Concord, Massachusetts
June 17, 1775, Battle Bunker Hill, Boston Mass.
July 6, 1775, 2nd Continent Congress issues “The Declaration of the Causes and Necessity of Taking Up Arms”
Nov 10, 1775, Congress establishes the Marine Corps.
Jan 10, 1776, Thomas Pain publishes pamphlet “Common Sense”
June 11, 1776, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Roger Sherman, and Robert R. Livingston appointed to the committee to draft a declaration.
July 2, 1776, Congress declares independence by passing the Lee Resolution
July 2, 1776, Draft of the Articles submitted to Congress
June 12, 1776, Congress appoints Committee to draft the Articles of Confederation
July 4, 1776, Congress adopts the Declaration of Independence
August 2, 1776, Delegates begin to sign engrossed copy of the Declaration of Independence
Nov 15, 1777, Congress completes the Articles of Confederation
March 1, 1781, Articles of Confederation ratified, formally establishing the government of the United States.
Oct 17, 1781, Surrender at Yorktown, most fighting stops
Sept 3, 1783, Treaty of Paris, war formally ends
Nov 23, 1783, British leave New York and Carolinas
Sept 11–14 1786 Annapolis Convention to discuss uniform trade regulations
July 13, 1787, Northwest Ordnance passed by Continental Congress
Sept 3, 1783, Signing of Treaty of Paris, formal end of war

May 25, 1787, First meeting of the Constitutional Convention to fix the Articles of Confederation. George Washington President of Convention.
Sept 17, 1787, Convention concludes, Draft of constitution submitted to the states
Dec 7, 1787, Delaware first state to ratifies
June 21, 1788, New Hampshire ninth state to ratify, became the ninth and last necessary state
March 4, 1789, Under the Constitution, Congress convenes for the first time in New York City
Dec 15, 17887 Presidential elections begin different dates in different date
Jan 10, 1789, Last President election George Washington elected
May 29. 1790 Rhode Island becomes 13th State to ratify
March 4, 1791, Vermont becomes the 14th State of the Union and first non-original State

January 18, 2018 Masters

Masters' Class January 2018
We will be doing Jeopardy in teams. Get together in teams of 3, you can choose who you want or be in the pool to be assigned. Study: dates, place and the documents of the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Know who were the main players of each, Why did they need that document and what does it say? The categories are Events, the Declaration ( 2 sets of 5 questions), The Articles of Confederation ( 2 sets of 5 questions), The Consitution ( 2 sets of 5 questions), The Bill of Rights ( 2 sets of 5 questions), Dates, the bonus round questions.

I will award extra points for memorizing the Preamble to the Constitution and the Declaration's   1st paragraph and a half (up to "the right of the people to abolish it") and the last paragraph.

Dates of the Articles of Confederation and the other documents,
What are some of the Amendments?
What did some of the Founders do? and
Acts of Parlement that caused Americans to rebel (Sugar, Stamp, Quartering, Intolerable and Townsend Acts)
