Hi Class,
Welcome to the Leadership lens of Vanguard where we will be learning more about US History, the Constitution and US Citizenship. We will learn why this is the greatest country the world has ever known. We will learn how we work together with our imperfections “to form a more perfect union”/
For our first Apprentice class we will prepare with these three things:
- Read the Mayflower Compact. You can find in about a thousand places online by doing a search. In your Commonplace Book (CPB) answer these questions:
What were the purpose of the Mayflower Compact?
What influence did it have in other documents to come? - Read chapter 5 of World History for Latter-Day Saints. Copies were made available on Vision Day. There is also a pdf file too. In CPB write three things you would share with someone learning American History for the first time.
In you CPB add 2 or more things or found interesting you learned from the episode to the new history person in #2 above
In Class
We will be playing a game/simulation. You will pick a town from the list. Your job will be to lead a colonial settlement from 1650 to 1750. We will play 4 25 year rounds,
- Choose a location, before class, first come, first serve. Email me petemaure@gmail.com with “colony choice” in the subject line
- Research your settlement. What resources are there? What would it have been like in 1650?
- Make a map. Bring the map to class. Where is it? Locate mountains, rivers and swaps if they exist.
In class w will work in regional groups. So New englanders will have a geroup, Depp South in another and so on.
Come ready to play. The purpose is to learn. There are no winner or losers, unless you don’t play.

Do some research about the area. Make a map to bring to class to you. You can print on out and highlight/color it.
Also for Masters don't get to hung up on individual names. It is important to know the tribes and what part they play. How do they make laws and how do they function. There are somethings the US constitution is similar and somethings very different.
As of morning of Wednesday 10/11/17 here is what I have, correct me if I missed someone
